Nutec Wendy Houses

Nutec Wendy houses are the modern way to build sound structures for less. From small garden sheds to full size homes.

Our Nutec Wendy houses and homes are built using quality materials by professional tradesmen. Attention to detail and value to our clients are at the forefront of what we do.

A Nutec Wendy house is only as good as the frame it is built on. Timber, treated to SABS standards is constructed on either a pallet (none permanent), concrete (pernament foundation), or even timber poles (for rough, uneven, or sloping terrain) form the structure of our Nutec buildings. We put as much care on the inside as we do on what you can see on the outside, meaning your structure will last for years.

What is Nutec?

Why is Nutec the perfect material for cladding timber framed structures in Cape Town?

Nutec is a fiber cement board manufactured by mixing synthetic fibers in portland cement. The resulting material is tough and hard wearing, making it a perfect material to clad the outside of timber framed structures.

Nutec is a trade name, however, it is now the generic name used for this type of fiber cement product. It comes as either large, flat boards; narrow, thin strips, or what are called 'handiplanks' which are thin strips imprinted with a wood grain pattern, when painted they look just like painted wood.

Nutec is for you

Nutec is the perfect modern material and if budget allows should be used unless you want that traditional wooden wendy house look.

It is:

  • Super easy to maintain
  • UV resistant
  • Very hard wearing
  • Impervious to rot (a bonus in our marine environment)
  • Impervious to pests (bugs can't eat it, and even rats hate gnawing on it)

Nutec Wendy house options

Foundations

Pallet floor

You can opt for a traditional Wendy house/garden shed set up, with a wooden pallet floor supported on bricks- this type of unit is considered temporary as it can be moved in required. This can help with planning in some instances, and is a cost saver if a solid floor is not necessary (as with a shed or storage unit).

Concrete floor

A more permanent option in which you Nutec house is built on a concrete slab. This is a permanent solution and recommended if the unit is for any purpose involving habitation (a home, garden flat, office, or studio). Costs are slighly higher, however, still well below what a traditional brick and mortar construction will cost. The resulting Nutec wendy house will be much more solid.

Wooden posts

Terrains sometimes require that your Nutec wendy house is built on poles driven into the ground. The lightweight construction of a Nutec wendy house make it perfect for this kind of construction.

Roof type

Pitched roof

There are typically two main types of roof that are suited to Nutec Wendy house construction- the first is a pitched roof in which two angled roof surfaces slope up and meet in the middle of the structure. The resulting roof is better to look at, and offers better run off for water as the angle of slope tends to be higher.

Flat roof

This isn't a completely flat roof, but the slope of the roof runs across the width of the building, one wall (typically the back wall) being slightly higher than the other. The resulting slope is less than a pitched roof, and the resulting roof is generally not as high, giving the building a lower profile, and the unit cost is slightly reduced because of the easier construction. However, a flat roof does not perform as well as a pitched roof in harsh weather conditions.

Lined and insulated

If you are going to live or work in your Nutec wendy house it needs to be lined and insulated- rhino boards are used to create internal walls, and insulation is place inbetween that and the outside wall- keeping heat out in summer, and heat in in winter.

Ceilings

Similar to walls, a ceiling creates space to hide wiring, and put insulation so that your Nutec is cosy in winter, and cool in summer.

Internal walls

We can divide larger units into multiple rooms using internal stud walls.

Windows

Most Nutec wendy houses require windows to comply with local planning regulations. We offer standard wooden frames or aluminium sealed windows.
